I've been wrestling with your eyes.
The one way networks of my brain,
their processed output's all the same,
producing thoughts I can't describe.
Estimate
it for hours -
the angle formed between your chin and hair,
along your neck,
the beauty lies in straight lines.
I'm distracted by your gaze.
I struggle with my clumsy mouth.
There's thoughts but words that can't come out.
I'm stranded on your porch for days.
Measure it
for a lifetime -
hypotenuse, the squares of me and you.
They don't add up,
and romance dies in straight lines.

Sweat rolls -
Copper -
like pennies off his back.
Helmet eyes, trained desert-wide,
mirror the salt flat.
Fly draws near.
Jets ignite.
Toothed tires bite the ground.
His parachutes just won't deploy,
and no one could suspect
desert fly.
Metal flies -
not meant to leave the ground.
Spirit of America:
shit and blood on the salt flat.

And she says,
"The wind's been blowing all night."
Identifies
that we're no closer to the root.
And I said,
"If I can't make it alright,
know I tried."
She says, "It isn't up to you."
"Clear out your eyes.
I want to make it right."
"I'd give the skies to see what you do,
but I'll see what I want to see."
Convinced the wind's been blowing all year.
So I said, "If I can't make it alright,
know I tried, but I don't even know the way."
Then I asked, "If I see you at night,
would you cry? Would you
even ask a question or send
or turn or look or even
spit in my direction?"
"I want to make it right,
to clear out your eyes and
make you see
the good things that I see, but
you would rather
walk away."
(Please recycle some of the lame sentiment
above for the third verse)
"I just can't make it right.
There just isn't time
to make you see the things I see,
'cause you would rather
walk away."

She's out tonight.
Her prosthetic beauty
the fading light
back of a movie.
She slips into the party sideways.
A hundred eyes see "victim" on her face.
I look for dirty human contact
and her arms, her arms are
wide open.
Earth, Moon -
Orbits collapsing to collision
and I feel the Earth move
with the weight of your decisions.
We slip into my little room and
we abuse each other for a while.
I'm through. She's hurt.
I kick her out and now her eyes,
her eyes are wide open.
